Bekin Home privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026
Bekin Home is a family wall calendar. It shows your family’s Google Calendars and photos on a screen at home and on your phones, along with shared lists and chores. This page explains what Bekin Home accesses, what it keeps, and how to remove it.
What we access from Google
When a parent signs in with Google, Bekin Home asks for:
- Your basic profile: your name, email address and Google account ID. We use these to know who signed in and which family you belong to.
- Your Google Calendar (calendar.events and calendar.readonly): to show your calendars and events on the wall and your phone, and to create, change or delete events when you do that in Bekin Home.
- Only if you add family photos, asked for separately the first time you do: your Google Drive, limited to the files Bekin Home makes there (drive.file), to keep your photos in a “Beacon” folder; and the photos you choose in Google Photos’ own picker (photospicker.mediaitems.readonly), for that one choice.
Bekin Home doesn’t ask for Gmail, Contacts, the rest of your Drive, your Google Photos library or any other Google data.
Your calendar stays between your devices and Google
- Your devices (the wall screen and your phones) fetch events directly from Google and send your changes directly to Google. Google Calendar stays the source of truth.
- Our server (the “relay”) never receives or stores your events.
- Each device may keep a copy of your events so the calendar still shows when the internet is down.
Your photos stay in your Google Drive
- When you add a photo, your phone makes a smaller copy and saves it, with a small file Bekin Home uses to place text over it, in a “Beacon” folder in your own Google Drive.
- Your wall screens download your family’s photos from Google Drive and keep copies so they still show when the internet is down.
- Our server never stores your photos. If your phone’s browser can’t fetch a photo you picked straight from Google Photos, the relay passes it from Google to your phone without keeping it.
- Removing a photo in Bekin Home takes it off every wall and moves your copy to your Google Drive trash.
What our server keeps
The relay, hosted on Cloudflare, connects your family’s devices to each other and to Google. It keeps only:
- For each parent who signs in: name, email address, Google account ID, and the Google refresh token that lets the wall reach your calendar without you signing in again. Refresh tokens are encrypted (AES-256-GCM). The short-lived access tokens made from them are held in memory only.
- For each phone and wall: a hashed device key (never the key itself), whether it’s a phone or a wall, and when it was added and last seen.
- Your household: which parents belong to it, and invites, which expire after 7 days.
- Your household’s lists, chores, meals and rewards, including any family members’ names you add to them, and the list of your family photos (which Drive files they are, who added each one, when, and where to center it), never the photos themselves. These live on each of your devices and sync through the relay, which keeps a copy so a device that was offline can catch up.
Sign-ins in progress and wall pairing codes are deleted within minutes. If your family runs its own relay, this data lives on your server instead of ours.
Spotify and weather
- If you connect Spotify on the wall, that sign-in stays on the wall and is used only to talk to Spotify.
- For the forecast, Bekin Home sends your home’s location to the US National Weather Service or the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. Nothing else is sent.
How we use Google data
Bekin Home’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In plain terms:
- We use your Google data only to provide Bekin Home’s features you can see: showing and editing your calendar, and showing your family photos.
- We don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for advertising, profiling or credit decisions.
- We don’t share it with anyone, except our hosting provider to run the service, when the law requires it, or as part of a merger or sale of the service (and then only under this same policy).
- No person reads it, unless you ask us to for support, it’s needed for security (like investigating abuse), or the law requires it.
- We don’t use it to develop, improve or train AI or machine-learning models.
What we don’t do
- No ads, no analytics and no tracking cookies.
- The phone app keeps its device key in your browser’s storage, only so you stay signed in.
Removing access and deleting data
- Remove a phone or wall: in Bekin Home on your phone, go to Devices and tap Remove. Its key stops working right away.
- Stop Google access: in your Google Account, go to Security › Your connections to third-party apps & services, choose Bekin Home and remove access. The stored refresh token stops working.
- Remove your photos: remove them in Bekin Home on your phone, or delete the “Beacon” folder in your Google Drive. Walls delete their copies once a photo is removed in Bekin Home.
- Delete everything we keep: email [email protected] from the Google account you signed in with, and we’ll delete your household’s data from the relay within 30 days.
We keep your household’s data for as long as your family uses the service, until you ask us to delete it.
Children
Bekin Home is set up and managed by parents. Children don’t sign in and don’t need Google accounts. Parents can add their children’s names to chores and lists. Bekin Home isn’t directed at children under 13.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Every phone and wall has its own key that can be revoked on its own, and refresh tokens are encrypted at rest.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
